Digital Marketing Trends to Come in 2021

2020 has not been a thriving year for businesses and consumers alike (unless they produce hand sanitiser); however, that being said, the online world has seen exponential growth in the face of this adversity and has adapted to the demand of what consumers require from online services and shops for both essential and luxury goods.

With 2020 paving the way for a more diverse online world in 2021, this piece will take a look at the trends that will be on their way into 2021, so businesses can be ahead of the curve.

Digital Marketing Trend – Short Form Video

If Tiktok, a short-form video social media platform, does not ring any bells from this year, there must be an extremely good reason. Tiktok saw a 200% growth in 2020, some of which can be attributed to lockdown measures, but also the rising popularity of short-form video. Consumers want the information to be quick, engaging, and easy to consume, and short-form video ticks all three boxes.

Digital Marketing Trend – Podcasts

Podcasts have really come into their own this year, and there seems to be no signs of slowing down. As of April, this year, there were, on average, 30 million podcast episodes available to stream, and this impressive number is only highlighted by its comparison of 18.5 million podcast episodes in 2018. Podcasts are a convenient way for consumers to get information on their commute, during a workout, or other times where reading can be difficult. Not to forget, there is the personal, authentic touch of hearing voices.

Digital Marketing Trend – Authenticity

Authenticity as a trend has been brewing for a while now over the past couple of years, and it will continue to be at the forefront of consumers' and businesses' minds when thinking about a service or product. But why? To put it bluntly, we are both working and living in an era that is overshadowed by distrust in organisations, and on a wider scale, society, which means authenticity is more important than ever.

Customers and clients are far more likely to stay put with those they trust over something or someone that seems disingenuous, so having a marketing strategy that reflects the authenticity of a business is crucial. Do not wait until 2021 to make these changes, as the trend is already in motion, and it can take a while to build up brand trust and establish a relationship with customers, so there is no time like the present!

Digital Marketing Trend – Voice Search

"Siri!" or "Alexa!" has become a staple in households across the UK before asking a question out loud. Voice search is said to be another trend on the rise through to 2021 as more and more people are introducing voice search into their daily lives. The important thing to remember for this trend is that google search and voice search will be used very differently, so be sure to make sure content can be found with long-tail keywords as real questions, so Google understands the content is relevant to a search.   As with all trends, it is important to work out the demographic of the business and how to use these up and coming trends in a way that will benefit a business and its consumers directly.
