4 Reasons You’re Not Ranking as Well as You Should Be

1.   Quality of Content

Search engines want to send people to the content that best answers their questions. If your content isn’t among the best within the realm of your targeted keywords, then search engines don’t have any reason to rank you on page one.

If you’re putting out content just for the sake of it, then chances are it’s not going to rank. Instead, you need to change your focus to putting out content that’s really going to benefit the people reading it and provide them with answers to the questions they have.

2.   Targeting the Wrong Keywords

Sometimes you can get step one right and produce the best article on the Internet about a given subject, but still struggle to get your page ranked.

The problem might be that the keywords you’re targeting are just too ambitious. Some keywords are too competitive to realistically feature in the top few results. Depending on the domain authority of your website, you might be better off going for some less competitive keywords to build up your traffic.

3.   Link Profile

One of the big factors that goes into the rankings — and might be stopping you from ranking for the more competitive keywords — is your link profile. The links you build from other websites help determine your domain authority (DA) which acts as sign of trust for the search engines.

The more you can increase your DA, the more you can show the search engines that your website is reputable and worthy of ranking. If you don’t have the right link profile, then Google and the others will see you as less authoritative and be less likely to rank you for competitive keywords.

4.   User Experience

You can try and please search engines all you like, but it’s not going to matter if you can’t please the humans that are reading your content.

Search engines pay a lot of attention to bounce rate and time on page which show them how people are interacting with your web pages. If you’ve got slow load speeds, or user experience faux pas on your page, then people aren’t going to stick around and interact with the content. The search engines will see these metrics and you’ll have less chance of ranking.
